Substance Level Databases for REACH and RoHS

Is collecting Yes/no declarations enough?

Collecting Yes/No RoHS compliance material declarations is a simple system and the one that most companies are presently implementing. It does however have one major drawback. When the next substance is banned all material declarations will have to be re-sourced. A yes/no RoHS declaration declares that none on the 6 RoHS substances are contained in the part, it does not reference any other substance. If for example arsenic is banned in 2008, companies will need to go back and collect new material declarations FOR ALL COMPONENTS. This simple yes/no system will not work for REACH.

Our Solution MDW-ES - The affordable Substance Level database.

This is a fully featured substance level database. No matter if you are making clothes or electronic goods, all products are made from substances, which form components, which are defined by a Bill of Materials into a finished product,

It can take automated data entry through IPC 1752 format and much, much more. It is fully networkable and multi site capable.  It will link to pdfs and urls which enables easy integration with existing component databases which contain datasheets or certificates of compliance. It makes an ideal scaleable solution to enable any SME running an ERP or MRP system to utilise the power of IPC1752. It's ability to sit alongside SAP, JDE, Oracle, Peoplesoft etc and to maximise leverage off existing infrastructure makes it extremely cost effective to implement. It is a fraction of the cost of the integrated modules for the major ERP SYstems.

Main Features are:

  • Substance level database
  • IPC 1752 Compliant
  • Full multilevel BOM import features
  • Allows aggregation from individual component to product level of a multilevel BOM.
  • Allows production of IPC1752 declarations for your products - ideal for component manufacturers.
  • Replaces or sits alongside an existing component database
  • Ideal lower cost solution for use for SMEs who are using JDE, Oracle, PeopleSoft or SAP
  • Ideal for users who are using a traditional MRP system.
  • Does not require integration into the ERP/MRP system
  • Has a "wizard" component entry facility as well as capability for IPC1752 XML schema automated data entry.
  • RoHS-International can develop and project manage data conversion from existing component databases into MDW.

For RoHS, the database shows compliance on a traffic light scale of Red - Amber - Green and allows for custom banned substances to be added as well as the maximum concentration values to be altered - such as Cadmium at 5ppm for Sony Green Partner program.

For REACH, SVHCs and Intended Release are flagged at item level and rolled up to product level. Automated reporting provides anualised volumes of all substances for easy calculation of annual tonnage limits.

This is a fantastic product, the only one currently available that brings IPC1752 into reach of the average SME. It was designed by 2 members of the IPC1752 committee specifically to fill the gap in the low end of the market. Support for this product is available globally.
