China RoHS

The China RoHS Directive took effect from 1 March 2007. This requires disclosure (not removal) of the 6 EU RoHS substances for those products included in the "List".  Disclosure can be at the component or ar the sub assembly level, but it has to be in the prescribed format, in Chinese, as detailed in the document "Marking for the control of Pollution Caused by Electronic Information Products". There are product marking requirements and a calculation of the "Environmentally Friendly Use Period" to be calculated.

The will be a second stage for China RoHS with the release towards the end of 2008  of a "Catalogue" of products. This catalogue will be a subset of the "List". The products that are included in the "Catalogue"  will need to comply with an actual prohibitions of the substances  and be tested in a Chinese laboratory for compliance.

China RoHS Maximum Concentration values are the same as the EU but with no Hexavalent Chromium at all being able to be used for metal passivation as well as none of the other metals being able to be used for surface coatings. Also components that are smaller than 4mm3 can be treated as homogeneous items under some circumstances.

There are labeling requirements for the product and disclosure of the substances in the packaging.
